Coffee Layer Cake recipe from 1941

This Coffee Layer Cake appeared in the Minneapolis Tribune and Star Journal on June 10, 1941. The cake itself is more molasses-flavoured than coffee-flavoured. To enhance the coffeeness, I used a coffee flavoured frosting.

Notes about recipes

Many of the recipes I use are old.  Some are very sparse. Some are incomplete.

As with all recipes -- both vintage and modern -- they are open to some level of interpretation.
I try my best to stay true to the original recipes when possible. However, over time, tastes change. Ingredients change.

And as such, I do my best to adapt these old recipes for modern home bakers when necessary.
