This Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe appeared in the Daily Times and Daily Journal-Press of St. Cloud, Minnesota on May 2, 1939.
Chocolate chip cookies were invented in 1938, so this recipe is one of the earliest. It predates chocolate chips, which were invented in 1941.
The cookies themselves are more akin to chocolate muffins in taste and texture than modern chocolate chip cookies. More cake-ie than cookie.

- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 4 oz chocolate (48% cacao) (113g)
- 1 egg, well beaten

Final verdict: I liked these. I would make them again.
